1965-1975
ENGINE CODE IDENTIFICATION

The 1965-1975 engine code
stampings used the same basic format over the full eleven-year period and
that included the stamping location as well. The V-8 engines utilized the
block code pad immediately forward of the right hand cylinder head. Both of
these locations were used from 1955 to 1975.
The
engine assembly code format consisted of seven alphanumeric characters from
1965 to 1969. In 1970, the letter "C" was added to the engine code to designate
Chevrolet Motor Division. The first letter in the engine code always represents
the engine assembly plant.
