The cars must be production-based Corvettes built between 1984 and 1996. Standard engines with approved camshafts, ZR-1 brakes and Z-51 suspension are allowed in the series. Safety equipment such as fire systems and roll cages is mandatory. Shaved street tires and 9 x 17" wheels must be used.
This is the fourth year for the series and Danny has dominated the events. He was crowned champion in 1996, ‘97 and ‘98. He has not been able to compete in 1999 because of other commitments including building, driving and serving as crew chief for the Laguna Seca winning C-5 Corvette World Challenge car. At the last minute Danny decided to compete in the final TCC event of the year at Road Atlanta. CorvetteMagazine.com spent some time with Danny at this final event to see what this series is all about.
Road Atlanta is a tight hilly 2.54-mile racecourse northeast of Atlanta, Georgia. Fourteen Corvettes showed up for the season finale. Robert Finlayson was the 1999 points leader going into this race. Danny brought one car to the event, Tinker Toy #12. The car started life as a 1995 LT-1 coupe, however Danny pulled the LT-1 and replaced it with an L-98 with a ZZ3 short block. Danny has a lot of spare Doug Nash 4+3
The L-98 uses a ZZ3 short block and headers built by Danny in his shop. The engine produces about 340 horsepower with mufflers.
