In late 1995, Danny met with Dave Wiehle who owns Melrose T-Tops to discuss
creating such a series. Dave raced C-4s in the Chicago area and was interested
in Dannys series idea. They identified about 30 C-4 Corvettes that were
racing in the Chicago, Michigan and Pennsylvania areas. They contacted these
owners and most agreed to participate in the series if it was approved.
Danny called Steve Wiedman at Mid-America Designs and
asked for sponsorship support for the C-4 series. Steve got corporate approval
and Mid-America became the sponsor of the series. It was named the Mid-America
Touring Challenge for Corvettes or TCC for short. The new series began in may
of 1996 at Grattan Raceway in Michigan. After six events Danny was crowned the
inaugural champion. The cars race under SCCAs Improved Touring class or
ITE rules, however the driver/owners self govern themselves. They write their
own rules, which are stricter than SCCA.
