The
stock dashboard and instruments are retained in Tinker Toy #12. Note the 1989
steering wheel. Danny prefers that to the 1995 wheel for racing.

he drag raced on weekends.
In 1985, Chevy dealer Bill Hagee invited Danny to come
help his Escort showroom stock Corvette team race prepare their cars. Danny
quickly became the teams crew chief and throughout the late 80s
he worked as crew chief for various winning Showroom Stock and Corvette Challenge
teams. In 1989 he joined the Texas American racing team. The team had four Challenge
cars that were raced by Stu Hayner, Scott Lagasse, Al Lamb and Tommy Riggins.
While managing the Texas American racing team, Danny found time to work at his
GM job and build his own showroom stock Corvette racecar. He named his first
racer Tinker Toy because of all the different parts he used to construct the
car. He began racing this Corvette successfully at Waterford Hills in Michigan
and was named Waterfords Driver of the Year in 1989. From 1989 to 1995
Danny kept building Tinker Toys for himself and customers. He always kept looking
for ways to bring all of the old C-4s together to race in one series.
