sale.
I dont know where they all are." This is an interesting admission
from a dealer that sells hundreds of Corvettes each year. Too many were built
to make them real collectibles, but people obviously love them and are hanging
on to them.
1978 Corvette
While
the 1978 Pace Cars and Silver Anniversaries captured most of the attention,
there were still 24,991 standard cars built. Total production was 46,776, making
the 78 one of the most popular Corvettes ever. With the same options as
the Silver Anniversary plus the availability of 10 paint and 8 interior colors,
these were beautiful cars indeed. "The one Id want is a Black with
Black interior L-82 4-speed," says Corvette Mike. With the L-82 now producing
220hp, and the ten-year-old third-generation body updated with a fastback glass
rear window and new, more comfortable interior, Mikes choice is one fine
automobile. While Mike Vietro has seen the "numbers matching" mania
subside recently, correct, low-mile cars will always command the best prices.
1978
Corvettes will never be the kind of cars the big money collectors will fill
their garages with. Nobody will get rich owning one of these Corvettes, whether
its a Pace Car, a Silver Anniversary, or a standard 78, yet where
else can an average buyer own such a beautiful and historically significant
automobile that is affordable yet has a stable value?
A
milestone in your garage? The 1978 Corvette could be it.
