Marty Miller in Corvette #98 and Craig Conway in #30 duked it out for first
place on Daytonas NASCAR high banking.

moved the #98 Corvette up from fifth to third overall. By the end of the first
hour, Corvette #30 had moved up to first place overall and Marty Miller was
second in the #98 Corvette. Devon Powell was third and the Vipers were fourth
and sixth. Amos Johnson moved from sixty-third position to eighth overall in
the #08 Corvette at the end of the first hour. Joe Nonnamaker was running a
steady pace and was shown in sixteenth position.
After the first round of pit stops, the Vipers went
into the lead with the Corvettes right behind in third and fourth place. Soon
the #50 Viper began falling back and the two Powell cars went into second and
third position behind the #53 Viper. The Miller/Reece #98 had a small pit fire
and an exhaust problem, which put their well-running car down in the standings.
The two Powell Sunoco Corvettes quickly made up an eleven-second gap over the
lead Viper and passed it to take over first and second place overall. Soon after
the pass the Vipers began fading and were finally withdrawn from the race with
major mechanical problems.
