MV: The Corvette highlight of the show was one of the three original Scaglietti Corvette Italias built in 1959. This deep red-burgundy fuel-injected example sported a tan interior and was reportedly built for Carroll Shelby. Its been in Southern California for a number of years and was on the show circuit, including Pebble Beach and the Concours on Rodeo. The car has tremendous paperwork and extremely nice provenance. It sold for $155,000 before commission. Adding the commission, the car sold for approximately $170,000. The Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles bought it.
CM.COM: Did the surge of excitement boost all the Corvette prices up?
CMV: I think Corvettes did 20-30% better than any one, including the dealers and bidders, had expected. All the Chevrolet products from the early 30's through the 50s did much better than anticipated.
