Benchmark winner. To receive a Benchmark, the car has to be not only Bloomington Gold quality, but has to be of original quality and pass Bloomington Survivor requirements. This particular '68 L-88 was one of only 80 Corvettes ever built that year. For a 1968 T-top L-88 to reach $97,500 at the block, with a total price, including buyer's commission, of over $100,000, is an extremely important level of achievement. L-88 coupes have been settling anywhere between $80-90,000. And if a coupe can be sold for over a hundred grand, then a roadster should be over $125,000.

CM.COM: How high had you seen a 1968- 1969 L-88 in that kind of condition sell prior to Scottsdale?

CMV: Well, I held the record and that was quite a few years back. It was a triple black '68 L-88 roadster that I sold for $150,000. I sold that same car less than six months ago again for $135,00.

CM.com: What would you consider the highlight of the auction relative to Corvettes?

The front view of the 1959 Scaglietti, waiting patiently in Tent # 1 for Saturday Prime time for its share of the limelight.
