
The illness continued. During Carols high school years, she dreamed
of going on dates in a Corvette and faithfully tuned in to Tod and Buzz on
Route 66, always fantasizing about the day she would drive her own plastic
fantastic.
She was not alone, though. One day, she met a man
who shared her desire, and Carol and Carl began to suffer their singular sickness
together. Carl, too, was smitten with Chevys finest. Upon marrying in
1973, a rift developed: Carol was still thinking Corvette. Carl was thinking
home and family. A problem loomed. Carol did what any true lover would do.
With the first home down payment, she bolted out and bought a new 1975 L82
Corvette. "I knew just what I wanted," she says, "a coupe,
stick, the biggest engine available and the most luxurious interior."
Oh yeah, Carl was upset when Carol returned home
behind the wheel of the gleaming white Corvette - for about 5 minutes. Then
his illness took over and he was in love for the second time.
Cant blame Carl, though, nor Carol. What you
