Often
in our admiration of stock, unadulterated Corvettes - be they classics or
the latest C5 screamers - we forget that there is another nexus in the Corvette
universe. It’s an area where creativity and personality pick up where the
factory left off. It is the realm of the modifieds, and while few cruise down
this road less traveled, we all can enjoy and appreciate the parade. Some
modifieds are so subtle that you almost miss them. Others take their handiwork
to a hedonistic extreme. But perhaps the ones we gaze longest upon are those
like Mason Gott’s ’63 split window. These are the Corvettes which straddle
the chasm between refined and ragged-edged.
