Cadillac team, the Corvettes flew across the Atlantic to compete in the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans. Given the numerous difficulties involved with racing at Le Mans, especially for the very first time, the team’s third place showing was credible.
    
Five weeks later, the Corvette team was back in North America to compete at Mosport in Bowmanville, Canada. Lead driver Ron Fellows and co-driver Andy Pilgrim led most of the 2-hour, 45-minute race but once again finished a disappointing second. With only about five laps remaining, one of the Vipers seized the lead and managed to hold on for a scant .353-second win.
    
Although not scheduled to compete again until the end of september, the Corvettes found a way to make the Labor Day weekend race at the Texas Motor Speedway. Ron Fellows has a long-standing relationship with engine builder AER,
    Two all-American Corvettes, proudly wearing the stars and bars, took their place on the starting grid at this year¹s 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was the first ever official Chevrolet entry.
