Under the hood, Boyd installed a stock 1996 Corvette LT1 engine. For aesthetics, he painted the engine Boyd Red and chromed the buttons on the valve covers. Berry wanted an automatic, so Boyd’s shop installed a modern GM 700R4 transmission mixed by a Gennie shifter. Many of Boyd’s famous rods use these same components.
    
Although the seats are stock, they are upholstered in leather, an option unavailable in 1960. Berry also pulled the large, original steering wheel in favor of a billet aluminum wheel by Boyd. New air conditioning controls are another slight modification. Berry lives in the hot climate of southern Arizona and chose a Vintage Air air conditioner to fight the desert heat.
