Their new canvas was an Art Morrison tube chassis, including an Art Morrison
Independent Front Suspension with rack and pinion steering, but no power assist.
Ron explained manual steering was fine for such a light car.
There
was no need to keep the straight axle, so in the back, Boyd installed his own
Pro-Ride suspension, featuring a narrowed Ford 9-inch rear end. Boyd also installed
Afco coil-over shocks and Wilwood disc brakes at all four wheels. Coddington’s
major business today is his wheel company, so Berry chose a set of 18-inch Boyd
Coddington blades. They fit inside the original wheel wells, but just barely
when the shocks are in their lowered position, as seen in these photos. Raised,
they have the necessary clearance for street driving.
