same
time. To help the LT-5 keep its cool with all the extra power, Warner installs
the VHP Constant Monitor Fan Controller, which works in conjunction with the
160-degree Powerflo thermostat to keep the block temperature cooler.
Breathing
is the key to engine performance. The more airflow you can get through the heads,
the more power you can make. VHP’s modi-fications to the ZR-1’s intake system
include a low restriction filter and air box, along with port matching (by hand)
the plenum to the intake ports. Warner also installs a fuel injection plenum
insulator plate kit to prevent intake heat soaking.
With
the improved intake airflow, the next order of business is getting it out. Heat-warped
Watson headers are installed to direct the exhaust more efficiently to a low
restriction cat-back system, like the new Corsa Pro-Roller series with 2½-in.pipes
and 3-in. tips.
