exhaust durations of 215-degrees and 220-degrees respectively, (measured at
.050" lift) and .559" valve lift. This cam was specifically designed
with the OBD II system in mind and addresses the issue very well. Captain
Smogalert never issued a single "Check Engine" citation throughout
the test program.
When reinstalled on the dyno, the results of the modifications
were instantly apparent. With a set of TPIS C5 headers routing the exhaust
gases out of the engine, peak horsepower rose to 448 while torque jumped to
437 lbs./ft. Of course, some power will be lost when the engine is installed
and connected to a C5 exhaust system, but TPI Specialties is working to minimize
that. The company is working with Random Technology to develop a replacement
"X-pipe" that will connect to the TPIS headers and incorporate a
pair of Super High Flow catalytic converters.
