The interior was also redone. The instrument panel and dash were redesigned and a huge 160-mph speedometer dominated the gauge cluster. Directly below that was the tach, flanked by gauges on either side. The passenger side of the panel was recessed with a grab bar. The dash was integrated into the console with a panel that contained the radio, heater controls and clock.
   Mechanically, the ’58 Corvette received minor powertrain refinements. The top engine choice was the RPO 579D fuel injection 283, now rated at 290 horsepower.
