Within the scope of nearly 50 years of Corvette history, certain model
years stand out as milestones. The 1963 Corvette ranks as one of those
milestones. It signaled a new era in American automotive design as well
as a new high water mark for performance.
It
was also the convergence of the talents of three automotive giants. While
the underpinnings of the 1963 Corvette were all new, including an independent
rear suspension, there was also some compromise in suspension engineering.
