While it was impressive to see three C5 Corvettes doing so well against all the Vipers, this performance didn’t happen by accident. It began in 1997, when brothers Chuck and Lance Mallett bought a new silver C5 Corvette and five weeks later competed in the grueling 6,000 mile One Lap of America. The car finished second overall in a large field of the world’s best sports cars.
     In 1998 Mallett Cars, Inc. was formed and began offering the Mallett 435 C5 Corvette to its customers. This new car was based on their 1997 One Lap of America entry. Each 435 starts as a brand new production C5 and Mallett Cars Inc. assigns a serial number to each unit and then makes numerous modifications to its engine, interior and

suspension. These changes help make the 435 perform on equal footing with the world’s best sports cars. Now approaching its third year of production, Mallett Cars is always researching new methods to test and improve their Corvettes, and racing plays a key role in their product development. Now painted copper and equipped with a supercharger, their C5 rolling test bed produces well over 550 hp at the rear wheels.
     Early this year during a test session at Mid-Ohio, Chuck and Lance met Skip Thomas. Skip is the founder of the Dodge Viper Days Challenge series. Viper Days started in 1996 to help Viper owners explore the performance limits of their cars.
