It
takes thousands of parts to assemble your Corvette. Have you ever asked yourself
which parts do I spend the most time touching? The answer is the gas pedal,
seats and the steering wheel. The steering wheel and seats show the most wear
because of sunshine and our body oils. Of the two, the steering wheel is the
most visible part that shows wear. No matter how much you shine your baby,
if you have an unsightly steering wheel, your passenger is quick to notice how
tacky your interior looks.
Corvette was first fitted with leather wrapped steering
wheels in 1977. Those early wheels had leather covering only the outer rim,
and replacing a worn cover was fairly simple and inexpensive. With the introduction
of the 1984 or C4 Corvette, the entire steering wheel was leather wrapped. This
same steering wheel can be found on all Corvettes built between 1984 and 1989.
