M22, there were several 1965 Corvettes that were equipped with this new gearbox for special order racing applications. Chevrolet just added many of these transmissions to the vehicle's build manifest prior to delivery. New documentation found by this author has proven that 57 1965 M22 transmissions were built. The first was built on 4/15/65 with the first shipment from the Muncie transmission plant taking place on 4/19/65.
The only other change to the 1965 Muncie transmission was the moving of the assembly date code to the rear face of the transmission main case (right side). This change was brought about as a result of the new 1965 Protect-O-Plate program. This program required the assembly plant inspection department to record the assembly date code that was stamped into the engine,

Experimental Muncie Transmissions
During the 1963 model year there were several special close-ratio Muncie four-speeds built for the Corvette Grand Sport racing program. These transmissions were the "forefathers" of the M22 transmission released in 1965. Although the total number of transmissions built is unknown, all of those found and verified have "0-" experimental casting numbers on the main case and tail housing. In the following pictures, you can see many distinct differences from a standard 1963 Muncie transmission, including a coarse spline input with a very odd fine spline output. The tail housing is also very different in that it has special strengthening webs cast into it. This is the only verified example known to exist today.
