
Corvettes from 1953 to 2000 were shown, but right from the start we noticed
an unusual number of early Corvettes in attendance, starting with a beautiful
1953 model owned by F. Wayne Hartye of Boonton Township, New Jersey. Nearby
was a unusual (43 made) 1957 "big-brake" air-box "fuelie."
Then there was the rare sight of a Regal Blue 1958 roadster (only 92 made
that color) that William Mehalik brought all the way from Endicott, New York.
Mid-year fans would not be disappointed, with many
in attendance. Of course there were the usual fuel-injected and big-block
cars, but some of the nicest midyears were the lower horsepower models, like
the Mosport Green 300-hp 1966 coupe owned by Charles Banks of Lake Lotawana,
Missouri.
Most third-generation "Sharks" were also
here, including a pretty Monaco Orange 400-hp coupe owned by Ken Smith of
Dallas, Texas, which cost $6,592.90 new. There were some fine LT-1 Corvettes
on display, too, including a nice Ontario Orange 72 coupe with air conditioning
